Microsoft's Hub Keyboard app is now available for iOS | The Verge

I just messed around with this for a few minutes and while it’s not enough time for a full review, the auto-correct is almost non-existent. That’s a deal breaker.

As cool as it is to have access to your files to share within a few clicks, if that’s your thing, you need a keyboard that functions well as an actual keyboard first. To get users to switch from the stock iOS keyboard, which for all its faults is pretty good, you have to nail the core experience. That said, it’s a Microsoft Garage app so this isn’t a huge priority for them.

It’s cool to see Microsoft experimenting with different apps, though, and I hope they keep that up.

On Apple’s 40th birthday, my favorite Apple product

I got my first Apple product in sixth grade. I remember hearing the weird local radio hosts always talking about the iPod, and what a great product it was when they were announcing giveaways. I had no idea what an iPod was and I really had no interest in it.

Then my dad’s face lit up as I went to grab my “big” Christmas present that year. He was so excited, and he never got like that about gifts, it just wasn’t his thing. I ripped off the wrapping paper of a square box and saw “iPod+HP” on the side. As I opened the box and picked up the iPod, my dad said, “Isn’t it awesome? It can hold up to 1,000 songs! You don’t have to take that walkman and book of cd’s to school with you anymore!”

Before then, I wasn’t really into technology. I was too busy playing outside with friends or walking around the mall making stupid jokes. But that Christmas I sat at the computer with my dad setting up “Jordan’s First iPod” and scrolling through iTunes looking for some albums to buy while my cd’s ripped to the computer. Then that night he took me over to his crazy audiophile setup and starting playing me his favorite records, asking me which ones I wanted on my new iPod.

Crafting the perfect breakup playlist

“I’m just not as passionate about music as you are.”

Those were the first words my ex-girlfriend said to me after telling me that she initially sparked a conversation with one of the men she cheated on me with about Fleet Foxes, a group I used to enjoy. She never knew I liked them though, because she never cared to ask. She never really talked to me about music at all.
